In his work, Juarj Toman is interested in the phenomenon of time and space, which is almost physically connected with the process of painting. He focuses mainly on painting landscapes and urban spaces, reassessing the genre of landscape and plein air painting in terms of their narrative qualities. Toman deliberately applies a multi-level understanding of space to his paintings. Past and present, studio and exterior places, nostalgia and reality are intertwined in his works. This principle manifests itself in the paintings as the simultaneous painting of two levels of the depicted landscape or urban space on one canvas. Although the figure appears in the painter's work since a long time, it has not been given strong emphasis. In the artist's most recent work, the element of the figure becomes more strongly aligned with the spatial field of the painting and becomes even more fundamental to the narrative of the painting.
Dans son travail, Juraj Toman s’intéresse au phénomène du temps et de l’espace, qui pour lui est physiquement lié au processus de peinture. Il se concentre principalement sur la peinture de paysages et d'espaces urbains, réévaluant les qualités narratives du paysage peint en “plein air”.
Toman propose une lecture à plusieurs niveaux de l'espace dans ses peintures. Passé et présent, atelier et lieux extérieurs, nostalgie et réalité s'entremêlent dans ses œuvres. Ce principe se manifeste par la peinture simultanée de deux niveaux de paysage ou de l'espace urbain, représentés sur une seule toile. Bien que les personnages apparaissent depuis longtemps dans l'œuvre du peintre, c’est dans son travail le plus récent que l'élément de la figure s'aligne plus fortement avec le champ spatial du tableau et devient encore plus fondamental dans le récit du tableau.
Em sua obra, Juraj Toman se interessa pelo fenômeno do tempo e do espaço, que para ele está fisicamente ligado ao processo de pintura. Concentra-se principalmente na pintura de paisagens e espaços urbanos, reavaliando as qualidades narrativas da paisagem pintada ao “plein air”.
Toman oferece uma leitura multinível do espaço em suas pinturas. Passado e presente, oficina e lugares exteriores, nostalgia e realidade entrelaçam-se nas suas obras. Este princípio manifesta-se pela pintura simultânea de dois níveis de paisagem ou espaço urbano, representados numa única tela. Embora as figuras apareçam há muito tempo na obra do pintor, é na sua obra mais recente que o elemento da figura se alinha mais fortemente com o campo espacial da pintura e se torna ainda mais fundamental para a narrativa da pintura.
