Randa Maddah was born in the village of Majdal Shams, situated on the ceasefire line between the part of the Golan Heights occupied and annexed by Israel and the Syrian Golan. It exists as an indefinite space between two countries.
With a distinguished artistic career that spans sculpture, videography, and engraving, earning her numerous accolades, Randa embarked on a new artistic exploration a year and a half ago by returning to oil painting. This marked the initiation of a fresh research endeavor with ontological contours.
In her series, "Hanging Gardens," Randa delves into the timeless interstice caught between sky and earth, where humus nourishes Being. Drawing inspiration from the works of Bruegel father and son, as well as H. Bosch, the artist employs an expressionist figurative style. The intricately crafted paintings unveil creatures adorned with leafy coats, entwined in a luxuriant and joyful nature.
