In a world of boundless creative possibilities, Work on Paper - Body invites us into the realm of paper—a material that each of the artists in this exhibition reimagines as a powerful, expressive body. Lucie Mercier, Maria Beatitude, Osias Andre, and Qin Han draw us into their unique, tactile explorations, transforming paper from a surface into an intimate space for reflection, storytelling, and connection.

For Osias Andre, paper is a transformative element—a guide that brings his visual ideas into being and provides a space where concepts take shape without filter. He describes paper as a laboratory, an intimate surface that invites direct, hands-on experimentation with various materials like oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Here, Osias's process blends architectural logic with fluid creativity, allowing his ideas to evolve freely. Paper becomes a conduit for structure and spontaneity, a place where thought itself is translated into form, bridging the unseen with the visible and tangible.

For Maria Beatitude, paper acts as a canvas for one of humanity’s most essential acts: listening. Her series, depicting ears in various forms and configurations, serves as a gentle reminder of the importance of tuning in—to ourselves, to each other, and to the world around us. With paper as her chosen medium, Maria captures this narrative beautifully, each ear a distinct story, echoing the harmony of both sound and silence.

Qin Han, meanwhile, brings a playful and surreal approach to paper, which she describes as a medium deeply tied to her childhood and memories. Using cut paper, watercolor, and pastel, she creates vibrant, surreal scenes where bodies float in dreamlike spaces that embody love, humor, and the subconscious. For Qin, paper is more than a material—it’s an emotional landscape, a vessel for dreams that only the quiet stillness of paper can reveal.

Paper’s simplicity belies its potential for nuance and complexity. Lucie Mercier embraces it as a flexible medium that has accompanied her across cities, becoming a trusted confidant for her observations on themes such as feminism, mental health, and the female experience. Her works, shaped by her flexible lifestyle, possess a quiet power, capturing intimate moments that invite us to question the way we perceive bodies and femininity. Through her lens, nudity is reclaimed, granting the female form autonomy and voice.

Together, these works reveal paper as a vessel of memory, narrative, and presence, holding stories that range from introspective musings to calls for societal reflection. Work on Paper - Body celebrates not only the artists’ mastery of their medium but also the powerful, enduring relationship between art and this humble, expressive material. Here, paper becomes both a personal refuge and a shared space, inviting us to listen, see, and feel.
